Nuevos Horizantes, "New Horizons", a women's relief center in Quetzaltenango, offers a shelter for abused women and children. These survivors seek to rebuild their lives knowing that there abuser is still out there. Home life often reflects the violence that plagued the country with 36-years of civil war, which ended with a Peace Accord in 1996. The Guatemalan government does not recognize domestic violence as a criminal offense.
